I started seeing Josh to help me rehab shoulder injury from a lifetime of playing baseball. At the same time, I had back and leg problems from running 15 miles a week. Josh and I talked and he came up with a plan. In a few months I was one hundred percent for the first time in years. Then we worked on a plan. I wanted to do the Tough Mudder and I wanted to get into the best shape of my life. Six months later I was in half marathon shape, and stronger and more flexible that I’d ever been in my life. I’ve been around sports my entire life. My brother and sister are both athletes. My brother is an elite coach, my sister played college softball and I played college baseball. I’ve been around trainers since high school and there is nothing like what you get with Josh Conn. He understands the body as well as a PT. He gets nutrition and training as well as anyone I’ve ever been around. It’s not just one workout for everyone. He wants to know – what are you training for? What are your goals? Do you want to look good at the beach? Do you want to be healthy? I still play baseball so once my injuries healed we came up with a plan of functional workouts specific to help me throw and swing a bat. If I’d known Josh in college who knows what would have happened. You can line up trainers and talk to them for a month straight. You won’t find one with his knowledge and expertise. I’ve referred friends to him and they all say the same thing – he’s the best in the business.
As my 70th birthday approached I had two choices: like a dying flower, I could dry up and go to seed OR have a resurgence of energy and prepare for the next 30 years. I opted for the latter and contacted Josh to evaluate my options. The most athletic thing I ever did in my life was ride a bicycle in middle school, he had his work cut out for him. He was perfect for me because his approach to training is more primal, functional and fun. During our sessions he taught me about nutrition, dispelling many myths I subscribed to; I learned about my body’s capacity to grow strong and functional. In nine amazing months I lost body fat, weight and gained lean muscle mass. I can fit into all the clothes I love that are in the back of my closet! I started to run/walk most mornings and some afternoons, my cardiologist is impressed!
The best thing about working with Josh is that his education allows him to tailor my training to my age and abilities. I believe that he cares about my health and he personalizes every workout to my particular goals. In all these months I have never suffered a strain or injury with Josh. I totally trust him with my body and nutrition. I have truly changed my lifestyle!! I believe if I follow his training I can live the next 30 years with vigor and continue to function independently. After all, this is THE goal after 70!
As an avid runner I've always trained for any race under the concept that more is better, meaning for much of the week I was running or working out at a high intensity at least twice a day. I contacted Josh when things were just not feeling right, and not wanting to become injury prone, I signed up for a much different training program then I've ever experienced.
From Josh's first consultation it is clear he is very passionate about what he does, and truly cares about creating a workout specific for me and my needs. Our sessions are not only about performing certain workouts, it is about making sure they're done correctly. After getting me to calm down on my training regiment, changing some of my misguided concepts of nutrition, and working on some corrective exercises, I learned that sometimes less really can be more. This was incredibly clear to me after I ran a half marathon feeling better than I ever did in any other run. If I knew I could feel that great during a run, I would of found Josh a long time ago.
After just a few months with Josh, I've noticed a dramatic difference in my endurance, strength, and stability, all the while having an incredible amount of fun! You can find any trainer who can "train" you, but if you're looking for a trainer who will invest in you, and is truly passionate in this field because it's his lifestyle, not just a job, then I highly recommend Josh.
I am 50 years old and have struggled with strength and weight issues for the past 10 years. I have Fibromyalgia and am on several medications. My doctors have not been able to provide me with any solutions for weight loss and I know my activity, strength and endurance have been diminishing for several years. My endocrinologists suggested changing to a Vegan diet, which I did for eight months but still had no success. My doctors agreed that, other than my current diagnosis, there is nothing wrong with me. My wife and I decided to commit to making our life better by getting in shape physically and improving how we eat. What we have found in working with Solid Fitness, specifically Josh, is that we are in the best shape of our life, we are eating better, and have much better mental health. Over the past few months, Josh has guided us by providing not only very challenging workouts that test our strength and endurance but also resources related to nutrition and mental health. I wanted to write this letter of reference for Josh Conn as he helped me more as a Corrective Exercise Specialist than I ever expected. I am 65 years old and had just recently received steroid shots in my shoulder that had not helped my shoulder problem. Josh had a specific exercise program for my shoulder and added to this program each appointment to help with the shoulder movement. He is very task oriented and informed me that if I would do these exercises for my shoulder that he thought it would help with my shoulder movement. I am the type of person to follow instructions as I knew that I needed help and wanted to get back to playing tennis and other sports. After several months, I am happy to report that I have my shoulder motion back. I have started to play tennis again WITHOUT shoulder pain.
Josh is now working on my lower body as I had cancer in one leg. He again has a specific exercise program to strengthen my lower body. Josh takes a real interest in his clients and wants them to succeed. I feel very fortunate that Josh was available to help solve my problems. Hiring Josh Conn as my personal trainer this year is the smartest thing I've done for myself in a long time. I was quite leery of committing ten weeks to a trainer. Could I keep up? Did he know what he was doing? I thought so, but I couldn't be sure until we spent a few sessions together. Very soon I knew I had made the right decision.
I have issues with my knees - Josh works around those problem and painful areas. In fact, he has somehow strengthened the muscles around my knees without my doing more damage. We have been working on my core strength, and to my surprise I have really improved in that area. I am getting stronger and more confident every week, thanks to Josh and his professional, customized training.
But even though I am getting excellent results, I could never work with a trainer I didn't like and respect. Josh is courteous, smart, never late for a session and he makes me laugh. I'm convinced this laughter is tightening my abs.

I have been working with Josh for around two months. I am highly impressed with Josh's training methods and results. I have suffered from bad knees for years and I had limited my athletic activities to cycling and swimming. Since training with Josh, I find my knees are stronger than I realized. He was attentive and focused on my workout and consistently worked on any flaws, small or large, in how I was doing specific exercises. He was a good listener in that he designed exercises pertinent to my goals.
